Overview

Digital subscriber line (DSL) is an access technology that converts ordinary copper telephone lines into access paths for high-speed data communications (data, video, voice). DSL accomplishes this conversion when it digitizes the copper line thus enabling additional frequencies to be available for simultaneous voice and high-speed data transmissions. The customer’s existing phone service is not impacted by DSL service installation.

Connections using DSL service avoid delays in signing on and busy signals as the customer is always connected while their computer is on. The connection is dedicated by providing the bandwidth ordered by the customer all the time. Unlike other broadband services, the DSL bandwidth is not shared with other users in the neighborhood.
